I don't know that the

I don't know that the discount is "stingy", look at it this way, you're paying to purchase a good piece of software and therefore supporting the developers who worked long and hard on it. I know the general consensus is free is better, but in some cases I would disagree, if you want good software to keep coming, you need to support the developers.

Also, look at it this way, Apple releases one (1) copy of their operating system for $120. In comparison, Microcrap has the following:

Windows Vista Starter
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Enterprise
Windows Vista Ultimate ($399)

I only list the price for Ultimate because thats roughly what I equate OS X to. Notice a small price difference? You could buy Windows, be treated like a software pirate by having to input product keys, activate your software every 5 minutues, or you could buy a copy of OS X Leopard for $120, pop in a DVD, archive and install and away you go.

what you say is true it's

what you say is true

it's just kind of disappointing that the student price used to be 70-80 bucks (which other schools can still get on 10.5 if the software is sold at their campus)

guess ill just complain a while then get it eventually anyway

Ya, I ordered the family

Ya, I ordered the family pack for myself, as I have multiple macs that I'll need to install it on (and I'm splitting it with family, making it much cheaper per person).

Amazon.com is selling it

Amazon.com is selling it cheaper @ 109 USD.

But that 6$ savings might not be worth the mockery of all the pre-order kids next Friday.

only if 10.5.0 is a a big

only if 10.5.0 is a a big mess. if it works well, then those who wait are the ones who messed up

Windows Ultimate == 10.5?

OS X has a Media Center (PVR) equivalent? Wouldn't it be closer to Business (no Media Center). Excuse my ignorance.

Front Row. Press CMD-ESC on one of the iMac's, or press menu on an Apple remote.

It doesn't do TV recording, but it does a good chunk of everything else.

This pretty much boils down

This pretty much boils down to the fact that CCS has no interest in supporting Macs. To get the cheaper version, each school signs a contract similar to what they have with MS.

Boo CCS :(.

I must say, I've never been

I must say, I've never been so exited about an OS since the release of win95. I remember watching on tv as people were lining up outside stores to get the thing. Kinda like kids today with Halo or the consoles.

I'm pretty damn excited

I'm pretty damn excited myself. I'll be waiting anxiously at my desk at work all day for it to be delivered. I've already set up my fileserver for time machine, and I can't wait to play with Leopard... My only concern is they're saying time machine requires HFS+, which doesn't really make sense to me... but that'll be in another post.
