Leopard Speed Boost Observed (reset PMU)
After resetting the PMU on my MBP running Leopard, the startup time of my login items (growl, thunderbird, ical, etc) improved very dramatically.

MacBook, MacBook Pro
1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Disclaimer: don't blame me if something bad happens
The observed effect for me was, on a clean boot, after signing in, startup items took a scant 3-5sec compared to the ~15-20 before.
