New uog mail (zimbra)

seems like a lot richer client (plus we're getting more storage) - have to wait til fall to see it handle load
i wasn't considering paying for an alumni account til now ($50 per year, last time i looked it was $10 per month)

has anyone tried out the 'add external account' feature yet?

for instance, if i added gmail, would it copy down all those messages, blowing my webmail quota instantly?
would it also pick this extra account mail up if i check uog mail from an external client?

(i'm basically considering different options to figure out how to streamline my uog/gmail/hotmail combo)

I was in on the pilot, and yes, it is much better than the old Webmail setup.

If you set up an external account, it locally copies all messages. As well, some things like flags don't get synced properly. You also can't set an IMAP prefix for an account, so some servers will show all folders as 'INBOX.FOLDERNAME'. I forget if the external client will pick up on external accounts or not.

It's close, but not really a replacement for a normal IMAP client yet.
