Start up time taking AGES

So, this just started happening recently, and I have noooooooo idea what is going on.
OK, so no word of a lie, it takes my computer 24 minutes to get to the windows log in screen.
It's ridiculous. It spends 10 minutes at the windows logo with the blue bar bouncing back and forth, then goes to a blank black screen for a good 10-15 minutes, then proceeds to the login screen. Sometimes it doesn't even make it there.
Computer specs are:
P4 2.4
gig of ram
512mb Geforce 7600 video card
80gb hard drive
I have run a spyware and virus scan and cleaned everything out, and still does it.
My BIOS is updated and all that jazz.
So I am running out of options on what the hell this thing is doing...
any ideas?

Start up problems, away!
Install something called "Start up control panel"
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
and remove anything you don't want/need. Google any processes you're not sure of.

(here you can enable/disable startup items)
but since you said its on the windows logo and not once youre on the desktop,
you *could* try the repair install off the XP disc (after backing everything up) http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/repair.txt
could be a driver issue, or some hardware is on the verge of failing
still problems
msconfig was the first thing i did. no luck.
hijack this didnt do anything either, been down that road one to many times.
Guess i'm going to have to open her up, and unplug.replug everything, see if that works.
I can't back ANYTHING up because apparently it doesn't want to recognize my dvd/cd burner, but it is recognizing my dvd rom drive...urgh!
if i didn't have EVERYTHING on here i would just reformat, but i cant because i cant back anything up
Try booting up with a linux
Try booting up with a linux livecd, from there you can back up to your dvd burner. Also, if it takes a long time to boot then you know it might be a hardware problem.
Does your CPU run too hot? It might be scaling itself down...

tried reformating, it crashes
so im giving up, gonna sell it for parts
i got some online poker money that can finally be put to good use
parts will be going up on the buy/sell if anyones interested
hard drive is going in the garbage
