Forum Layout

The new layout is great, but the forum layout kills my eye every time I look at it. Can we get more distinct divisions between posts? I think that's the problem... I'm not quite sure exactly why it hurts to read the forums but it does. Anybody else agree? Yes, no? Is it just me?

Post Separation

I think that as soon as more users start making avatars, it'll be easier to see where one post begins and another ends. Not to mention who is speaking.

In regards to using avatars

In regards to using avatars to help distinguish posts, i think that does help alot. Trouble is, not everyone uses an avatar. Might I suggest we implement a dummy/default avatar for anyone who hasn't uploaded an image? It'll make the forum look a little more consistent, anyways.

Custom Themes

I'm excited for the opportunity to design custom themes for the site, then we'll all have many more options to choose from.

Yeah definitely have to give

Yeah definitely have to give my vote for more readable layouts + a the return of a dark forum theme. The ones available in the settings right now are nice as far as hitting the web2.0 look (the old forums did look slightly dated, but only slightly). At the same time though they're really not working for me as far as determining the breaks between different posts as mentioned. Nice clear delineation is even more important with the multithreaded conversations that appear to be supported now IMO.

It just depends on the theme you use

The one I use outlines each post individually. Its called bluemarine, but obviously it is also quite blue. Try it, see what you think.

What's interesting is that

What's interesting is that Bluemarine was the default theme for 4.7, Garland for 5.x. I guess we're all traditionalists :)

OK, I can see myself getting

OK, I can see myself getting tired of the default themes, and designing one of my own. Only one thing is stopping me: the vision. So, when I feel like making one, does anyone want to contribute? Hopefully, I can get as many people to pitch in, so I have a lot of really good ideas, and hopefully develop something that 75%, if not all, of the users here prefer to use.
