IR Remote

I've recently gone all Linux, due to the lack of MSDN access this semester.

My tv tuner works perfectly, I'm using tvtime. I'm happy with it, the quality's fine (for standard cable tv, it looks as good as can be expected).

However... my remote doesn't work yet. I've googled around, and found no easy solutions. Anyone know of a good way to program my remote to play nicely with tvtime?

The tv tuner is a WinTV card, and it works perfectly. The remote is the one that comes with the card.

All I really want to work is the channel up/down, power (opening tvtime), and volume. The rest, I shrug about, since I only really use the tv card when I'm about to go to bed. Otherwise, I'd watch tv in the living room.

I'm guessing that lirc is

I'm guessing that lirc is your best bet. The other way to do a remote involves setting it up so that it's just another input device to X11, along the lines of a mouse or a keyboard.
