DVI->HDMI quality

I noticed in my Sharp Aquos TV manual there is a disclaimer stating that quality may be degraded by using a DVI to HDMI adapter. Is this just BS to cover themselves when parts are poor, or can there (somehow) be issues converting the signal? It just seems strange since it should be an entirely digital process.

Sounds like it's just BS to cover themselves in case you buy a cheap connector for use on your TV. It's my understanding that DVI-D is actually the same same as HDMI for transmitting visual data (at least with regards to TV resolutions), it's just lacking sound, so there should be no loss of video quality between the two.
I use a DVI->HDMI cable on my Aquos and I get an amazing picture out of it.
Agreed
DVI D and HDMI have the same video quality. Just more propaganda to sell expensive cabling.
That being said, Matt said he tried a DVI to HDMI and it screwed up the aspect ratios for him, but that's likely his Mythbox misbehaving.

Well I've got it set up perfectly with VGA right now so I'll post here if anything changes when I connect the HDMI up tonight.

I have one set up going to my TV, It is noticeably sharper compared to old VGA. What they mean by degraded quality is you might not get some resolutions to work or something, basically covering their butts. I have never had problems.

Did you have issues with the image being clipped on the tv?

Define clipped. No, I was using the mini-dvi to dvi that apple gives you then I ran that to a dvi-d to hdmi adapter. When I plugged it in to the TV it went to native resolution and it worked.
Check your TV's manual to see what resolutions/refresh rates your ports support. If you are out of luck with that, there are apps out there for both mac and win to tweak the resolution/refresh rates beyond what the OS will allow.
