primus

SO my housemates and I are looking to get off rogers and hopefully get a cheaper ISP.

We are looking pretty much for an ISP, phone line (actual copper not voip), and a long distance plan.

I was looking at primus which seems to have an amazing price but keep hearing mixed results :S so anyone have any experience with them?

just a guess, but since they

just a guess, but since they use bell's tubes, they may suffer the same problems as bell in terms of living too far from their nearest hub.

in 2005 i moved to sifton properties w/sympatico, the signal was so poor, had to switch to rogers. bell said we were too far from their tube-station (ironically, only had to walk about 200m to get to the bell world store)

TSI for me.

TSI has worked well for me and they offer copper phone service. They also use bells lines, but if you are in range, it works quite well. (and no shaping with MLPPP)

You might want to wait out

You might want to wait out the CRTC ruling on the Bell vs TSI/CAIP situation before throwing your... eggs in their basket.

... Not really the metaphor I was looking for.

At any rate, they're currently still affected by Bell's packet shaping practices. IIRC, the final CRTC ruling on the situation is supposed to be soon.

These are your father's parentheses. Elegant weapons, for a more... civilized age.

jest to clarify,

If you use MLPPP with TSI or acanac, you are completely unaffected and unthrottled by Bell. (Sentex may offer MLPPP as well)

The CRTC has put the ruling date at Oct. 31.

As long as you're with an

As long as you're with an ISP that is *not* Bell or Rogers, you'll probably be happy. It's the sad truth here in Ontario.

aren't all ISPs in the end

aren't all ISPs in the end controlled by either bell or rogers :p

and for MLPPP don't you need 2 lines to do that?

MLPP can go stag

aren't all ISPs in the end controlled by either bell or rogers :p

Yep, I am jest glad MLPPP lets me fly under bell's shaping boxes.

and for MLPPP don't you need 2 lines to do that?

You can use MLPPP with only one link. (so, you are not using it for multilink functionality, jest to add a confusing header to all your packets)
