SOCIS Network Cables - What, Where, and When

What we're doing

SOCIS sells low cost ethernet cables to students for use in their residence rooms. The residence halls do not furnish the rooms with cabling, and students arrive unable to use their computers. The most common places for students to turn then is to retail stores like Staples, who have high costs and low volumes of stock. We provide a low cost alternative, and we have a decently large amount of stock.

If your cable is defective or the wrong size, just come back to us with it and we will gladly exchange it.

Where we are selling cables from

We sell cables from our SOCIS Lounge in Room 010 of the Reynolds building. You can find information about Reynolds here. By clicking on "Find on Map" on the right side of that page, you can see a bizarre little flashing target placed over top of our location on a University of Guelph map.

We may also be selling cables from other locations, like the Residences or the Resource fair. We have not received any specific approval regarding this and as such, cannot make any promises. Stay tuned for updates on this situation.

When you can purchase cables from us

During the normal Fall-Winter school year, members of SOCIS who are capable of selling cables tend to be available in Reynolds 010 during the daytime and evening of most weekdays. If you miss us, it is an unfortunate fluke. We will be attempting to establish firm office hours at least 2 days a week where people will be around consistently. If you wish to set up an appointment to make a purchase, send us an email to exec@socis.ca with your availability and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

O-Week

During O-Week, members should be available in Room 010 daily, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM to sell cables. Just stop by and we'll be happy to help.
