Vista Blows
You mean it runs?
Working at Staples, I have seen laptop after laptop blue screen, and software blow up in customers faces. All for a bit of eye candy. I can't justify it, even if I do have the techy knowledge to resolve a lot of the problems. Thanks, linux! *Thumbs up*

You know, that's my
You know, that's my experience somewhat -- The upgrade to XP was very smooth because it was built on a solid OS (NT5), but since Vista is such a large change it's lost quite a bit of stability that will settle over time. Or perhaps my memory is just corrupted. :)
No, I'm waiting for the CD
No, I'm waiting for the CD media for that upgrade. I used it on my desktop.
.
I like it. It's pretty, and I've had no issues of fancy effects getting in the way of actually doing anything. It's not a huge leap from XP, but there are small things that I like. I haven't really had issues with stability.
I enjoy being able to control the sound of all my programs at seperately, and have Windows remember the volume when I start it next. All of the sounds are nicer on the ears. Clear type is improved, and I can stand running it at higher than 1280 without my eyes complaining. I like the feel of the file explorer now. And having a really fast search everywhere is coming in handy.
My only complaint is that I'm still figuring out permissions, getting Vista to let me do certain things that I was never stopped from doing in XP.
Good experience overall.
Vienna
Well, Microsoft currently plans to ship Windows "Vienna" in 2009. Maybe by then I'll have a computer capable of supporting Vista. (Source)

Vista's requirements aren't
Vista's requirements aren't that bad. I spent 1200 on this desktop 2 years ago, and it runs it just fine. My computer is also considered "obsolete" by many geeks these days as well. The main concern, IMHO, is RAM, and RAM is cheap.
EDIT: Besides, you KNOW Vienna won't come out on time. I predict 2011.

That's crazy talk, Randall,
That's crazy talk, Randall, 2013 at the earliest, or maybe 2015. That is, unless, it gets complicated.

2013 sounds more realistic.
2013 sounds more realistic. I forgot that Win XP came out in 2001. What are the chances that Microsoft will be overrun by linux and Macs by then? I was amazed at the differences between versions of linux, and I was only going from Hoary to Edgy. If Linux can continue to evolve this quickly, I'll probably go all out linux soon.
Try suggesting revisions every 6 months to Microsoft... wow.
EDIT: Now I'm starting to rethink my rethinking... Before XP, new OS's were released nearly every other year. I'm starting to relate Vista to ME, and if there's even a small truth to that, XP: the sequel should be 2 or 3 years around the bend, hence 2009 to 2001 may be reasonable still. Don't forget, Vista was delayed several times over because they were trying to get the database filesystem deally working. With what little Vista offers over XP, another attempt at an OS shouldn't be too far off.

they spent such a long time
they spent such a long time doing vista... my prediction is that while they dropped the new file system from the vista release, they've still been working on it... "vienna" is just gonna be vista with the new file system and some tweaks to the user account control feature... again, just a prediction... if im right, i say they ship by xmas '09... its kinda what ME was to windows 98... just a stepping stone... i dont see them shipping a major update within 2 years... they spent so much time developing vista... how are they supposed to make any money off it if they make it obsolete within 2 years?
oh and by the way... figured id answer the topic... ya i havent had any problems with vista except that it runs slow as hell on my machine... 512 ram does that... oh and i guess the user account controls were annoying before i turned them off so i could run dvddecryptor... oh and for some reason nero burns incredibly slow... could also be a memory thing... but if i burn from images using decryptor it burns fine so im just getting used to that... no blue screens though... honestly, if it hadnt been free through the university and i had paid whatever ridiculous amount they want for vista, id be pissed cause i feel like the best new feature is the chess titans game that ships with the OS... thats my 2 cents worth...
ok so ive had vista up and
ok so ive had vista up and running for more than a month now... no problems... less than an hour after i post that i havent had a single bsod... ya apparently i forgot to knock on wood...
i figured out this has
i figured out this has something to do with printing to an image... at first i thought i was having heat issues but it hasnt happened in a while...
Vista Home Premium came with
Vista Home Premium came with my new acer laptop.
Wifi kept disconnecting (driver issue), laptop got hot w/ no applications running, and apps generally felt sluggish (for a pc w/ 2gigs of RAM)
Formatted and installed xp and everything works perfectly.
Vistas pretty stable considering its pre-SP though. One thing I liked was the mahjongg game.
Now if I can only find a week to spare for getting Ubuntu to work with this laptop.
Vista
I haven't had a single problem with Vista. I had a pre-beta copy of it (helps with having a dad high up) and that was crap (obviously) but since the actual release it's been awesome. It took some time getting used to but it's definately worth it. Vienna will be out 2010 :P
