Course Forum suggestion

Since it looks like much of the 'course forum' type chatter is now happening in moodle, why don't you folks make a single forum called 'coursework' that is persistent in which everyone can discuss whatever they want about courses.

You could still offer to faculty the service of providing an individual course forum, but make the faculty ask for it rather than making it automatic.

You'd have fewer forums to maintain, and the coursework forum might get more chatter if people only have one forum to read (I'd read it, but I don't read all the individual ones because I simply don't have time).

It's something that's kept

It's something that's kept for the courses that don't have a moodle site. Despite being in my 4th semester under the CIS department, I've only had moodle used for one course. The coursework was used for 1910 last year in small amounts by the TA, and we also had last semester the TA for 2520 used the forums here quite steadily, so we gave him mod privileges over the coursework forums so that he could moderate the content.

I agree that most of them go unused, but for some courses there isn't an alternative forum.

It would make sense if there

It would make sense if there was a central directory somewhere pointing to the appropriate moodle / socis forum. Though I imagine it's more difficult then it should be to find out what courses are set up with Moodle, much less which ones actually use it.
