CPES Updates:
- Discussed o-week and abolition of minors
- Major Discord, cheap Beer at Doogies, Monday, March 23, 2009
- Issues with the minors will be decided around the beginning of April
- It was said that a number of other institutions are eliminating minors but, a number could be 0
- So far no convincing proof that any other institutions are eliminating minors
- Maybe make a motion that SOCIS is for or against the idea of removing minors
- There are not enough people at this meeting to represent all CIS students behind such a motion
- It’s better to set up a poll on the website and go from there
- People may have chosen University of Guelph just because of the minors that are been offered
- Money will be saved from the updating and maintaining of the minors if the minors were removed
- The courses from the minors will still be offered
- Department meeting will be on Tuesday, and the following Monday. If you wish to attend, e-mail the chair and ask to go as a guest
- Post information about this issue on the next newsletter
Motion that SOCIS holds a poll and advertise the poll in CIS classes and the newsletter (Wyatt C, Chad C: all, 0, 1)
- O-week information is tabled the end of the meeting
- For more information, please visit http://www.uoguelph.ca/~cpessc/

Brass Taps Social Night:
- Will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Brass Taps at 5:30pm.
- Free pizza and subsidized beer.

Pop Run:
- Most likely go for a pop run soon
- Maybe get the pop when Roboticon volunteers go to Costco

Paintball (Professors?):
- Get professors to come to this event.
- This will increase the number students willing to attend if staff members come
- Go Talk to professors in person after we send to e-mail them

Where's Waldo?:
- Someone dresses up as Waldo and participants have to find Waldo across campus
- Jamie F is not here to talk about the event
- Maybe running the event on March 25, 2009

LAN Gaming Night:
- Maybe run the event April 2, 2009
- Get the SRM form done tonight

Art Event:
- 3D workshop was suppose to run last week, but due to CS Games, did not happen
- Thinking about to run it next week
- Decided on March 24, 2009 at 7:30pm at the Mac Labs

O-Week Events:
- The Orientation Team want the events to be academic; such as, how to use Blackboard
- CPES disagrees with this idea
- SOCIS will focus on SOCIS’s own o-week’s events, but is willing to help out CPESS with their event(s)
- Maybe start up a forum and have someone deal with the paper work, preferably someone living in Guelph
- Could start of a committee
Motion to form a committee to organize events for o-week and Shaun Z will be the chair of the committee (Robyn S, Mike H: all, 0, 3)
- Please stay after the meeting if you are interested in joining the committee
- Note that at least 3 people will have to be at the first event of o-week
