notes on the 3D workshop event

Hi everyone, I hope I'm posting in the right section

And I hope you enjoyed this event as much as I did.

I promised to post some guidance and links on 3d art and Blender. so here it is. These are useful even if you haven't attended the workshop (shame!).

These are the two videos made by the Blender Foundation so far. I hope they get you motivated and show you what Blender is capable of:

Big Buck Bunny: http://www.vimeo.com/1084537

The Guerrilla CG project has very useful and well-produced video tutorials. They are applicable to any 3d software and are useful if you want to learn general concepts in the field of computer graphics.

To learn the actual tools of Blender, the internet is filled with text and video tutorials. The video tutorials that I personally recommend are the ones here:
http://blenderunderground.com/video-tutorials/

For textual reference and tutorials, the official wiki has a lot of useful links and content:
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Main_Page

For more advanced content, you can have a look at the Blender e-shop:
http://www.blender3d.org/e-shop/

many of e-shop's items are free content (as in freedom), so it's ok to get them through torrent.

After you think you have a good grasp at the tools of Blender, the best way to become a more advanced artist is practice doing a lot of models and watch other people model. The Blender3d [Time Lapse] channel on vimeo is excellent for the latter:
http://vimeo.com/channels/blenderelapse

This should get you well on your way to become a 3d artist (with a sense of creativity of course).

Feel free to ask me any questions or any suggestions for possible doing this event again. I also frequent the #blenderchat and #smc IRC channels on irc.freenode.net. My nick is "dyf". You can get instant help from me or others this way.

Good luck.
