I get stuck in a loop of hackernews and reddit.
I browse reddit's front page, log in, browse it again, then work through the tabs I have saved up.
Then I load up hackernews (which I highly reccommend, it's like a startup-focused version of reddit), and do the same.
By the time I'm done with hackernews, reddit has changed enough that it's interesting again. So I loop. In the oddball chance I can't loop, I end up going through the best webcomics of the recent few days at Is it Funny today?
I'll often do this while listening to hypem.com, a fantastic music blog aggregator, but music blogs have a bit of an unreasonable love of remixes - so it's very possible to get sick of.
When I want to be productive, I end up somewhere like MIT's open courseware site, or building something with ModPlug or Blender. Both of those utilities are way easier to use than they look at first, and Blender's tutorials are out-of-this-world good.
What about you? What stuff do you do on your computer (that's generally family friendly!) that takes up your time? (oh gosh I forgot about video games)
edit: tonight my timesink has turned out to be canabalt -- try to reach 3000m
Canabalt
Huzzah I made it to 3052 meters before falling to my death.
