Hey guys,
SOCIS is running a smash bros. tournament September 17 and is thinking of changing the SRM form to support a installfest at the same time.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which distro of ubuntu we should be using? I know 8.04 is the most popular right now but I figured since 9.04 is out we might as well install it.
Also, for people who have experience installing linux, could you guys come out and help next thursday (assuming we make the change)?
Thanks!
What time are we talking
What time are we talking about?(a range would be nice, would like to know how late it goes).
Also where will it be held?
Assuming the time is reasonable I will probably attend and help install ubuntu.
As for what version, I'd probably just use 9.04, its solid and has much improved boot times.
Will be lots fun I'm sure.
We're thinking of running it
We're thinking of running it after CIS*1500 finishes so that would be 5:30, and any help would be great and bonus points if you can bring some methods of installing (I only have one live usb key)

I'm installing 9.04 through
I'm installing 9.04 through a USB right now, so if it works fine then i can bring a live usb key too. However, i don't think i'd be THAT helpful, since i've only used Ubuntu a few time.
No worries, as long as you
No worries, as long as you know how to install it we're all good :D

8.04 is what's in the labs,
8.04 is what's in the labs, so it's worth offering for those totally paranoid about compatibility issues. However, 9.04 should be just fine, while offering a better desktop experience.
If you have them, it might be worth your time to make a few USB keys as well for those with laptops without DVD drives. Just boot off of an Ubuntu CD, and run the USB creator wizard - it really is simple.
Installing Linux has come so far since the days of RH9!

Yeah, I remember when
Yeah, I remember when Install Fest actually used to be a hassle, now it just seems so easy to get Ubuntu up and running:-) Either way people should come to get a hand along with some fun tips a tricks to get their machines working :-)

What about debain ?
I have had Debian GNU/Linux as my choice of OS for many years now.
Do you guys think people would like to have Debian installed at the installfest ? I would love to do that!
Also, what time on Thursday ?
I come from Brazil where Linux is more popular. We have many debian user groups there. I don't think Debian is very popular here tho, anyone here likes Debian ?
Gihad.
Though Ubuntu is Debian
Though Ubuntu is Debian based, we have had the odd (pure) Debian fan (I think there's even a few Department staff with Debian installs). It certainly wouldn't hurt if you brought a USB key with Debian install on it, but I'm sure most will be going for Ubuntu for lab compatibility.
