SOCIS Newsletter, September edition!

First and foremost I’d like to thank everybody for signing up for the newsletter and also coming out for the SOCIS events during O-week. I had fun! I hope you guys did too! CIS Welcome Barbeque

Come out to the annual CIS Barbeque event and enjoy some free hamburgers. If the free food isn’t enough to entice you, CISters is also giving out an iPod to one lucky winner! Come out and enjoy the remainder of our beautiful weather with the CIS department!
Super Smash Bros. & Linux Installfest

Are you a Super Smash Bros. fanatic? If so, this is the event for you! SOCIS is proud to present the first Super Smash Tournament of the year and wants you to prove your prowess this Thursday! There will be both Wii-motes as well as classic Cube controllers provided so don’t worry if you can’t Nun-chuck it. Running during the tournament is Installfest, where we help YOU install Ubuntu. Both Ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 will be provided.

Linux Seminar

Is your first assignment due in a couple of days and you still don’t know how to compile your code? Come out to the Linux seminar to learn how to operate commands within the (newly installed) Ubuntu environment! This is a great way to learn about any tips and tricks you may want to know to make your life easier for the next couple of years while compiling your code through GCC, and also feel free to speak out if you are an Ubuntu guru and want to help out your peers. See you there!

Do you have a great idea for a SOCIS event but don’t know who to talk to? Come out to the weekly SOCIS meeting and have your voice heard! We are always looking for new and exciting ideas for things do to during our time off the computer so drop by and also enjoy free pop on us. After the meetings Mafia games will be held so definitely stay around and conspire against your friends!
