For those of you who know me, you probably remember this computer: It's my old cherrywood Dell Inspiron 6000 that I've had for four years. I've been using it as a pure-Linux machine for my entire undergraduate degree, but I no longer have a use for it. And so, I am prepared to pass it on to the next generation.
To see if it's kept up with the times, I decided to run Kubuntu 9.04 to see how well it worked... and it was flawless, so you should have no problem getting this computer to work. This computer was originally purchased for a bit over $2000, but given it's age, and that it's pretty much limited to being used for Linux (could also run windows XP flawlessly, or Windows Vista kinda crummily), I'll be putting it up for $50.
Here are the specs:
- Intel Celeron, 1.6GHz
- 512 MB RAM
- 4 USB, one firewire 1394
- Ethernet & Dial-up modem
- Audio in, Audio out
- SD slot
- Still averages just over 3 hours battery time
- VGA port not working
- Those buttons on the front that controls your media programs (compatible with Amarok)
- It's cherrywood, so it's really pretty!
I realize I could probably sell this computer for $100, but seeing as the takers are most likely in first year, I think $50 is an easier price to swallow. If you buy it off me and you're not pleased with it, I'll happily refund it (as long as it doesn't come back damaged). But if you treat it well, I guarantee it still has a couple years left in it!
