I thought I'd post this on the forums because I'm pretty certain I'm not the only one experiencing this. If it's the wrong place though, then please tell me who I should contact......
The Schedule of studies for Bachelor of Computing have CIS * 2500 scheduled for semester 2:
http://www.uoguelph.ca/registrar/calendars/undergraduate/current/c10/c10...
But when I try to add any of the CIS * 2500 classes to my semester I get this error:
"CIS*2500*0105 - Restricted to BENG.ESC & BENG.ESC:C
CIS*2500*0105 - CIS*2500*0105: Failed Section registration restriction rules."
And on a side note, how come those in B.Comp can't take any philosophy/political/art/music classes. Any courses in those categories return errors (usually says a major in arts is require). I'd really like to take a philosophy if possible.
Try registering for another
Try registering for another section. It could be that 0105 is restricted to engineers so that the lab doesn't conflict with other engineering courses.
If all else fails, go get a waiver.

I have tried several
I have tried several different class times.
And where do I find this waiver?
Go see Linda Allen!
Registering online is great and fast and easy when it works.
When it doesn't, go see Linda Allen in the B.Sc advising office in the science complex, just by the atrium.
She's a rad lady who has always fixed my problems in less than 5 minutes.
Tell her Chad Chabot sent you and said she was "rad" [or don't].

I had the same error, i got
I had the same error, i got frustrated, but came back to it later, and a different section worked. Also try only attempting to add the 2500 course, don't do it with others (thats how mine ended up working, though i do not know why).
As for philosophy, I've taken it this semester, and i was able to register for another next semester (though i decided against it, in favour of a different course). I'm taking Major Texts, if thats any help.
Yeah, it worked for me now
Yeah, it worked for me now too. Although it wouldn't let me get the lab time I wanted... still, I'm happy to have it registered at all.
And out of curiosity what elective did you chose over philosophy? I'm having trouble picking my electives.
I have been having a tonne
I have been having a tonne of trouble picking electives too. It seems that CIS is one of the few courses with so few required courses. Next fall will be busier though, so i look forward to that. Its very hard to manage when I don't have a lot of interest in other fields.
Next semester I have: Two CIS courses, Psychology 1200, Geology, Sociology.
I ended up taking geology over phil, because i couldnt get into the phil course (completely full), and the geo is Distance Ed, so i figure i'll give that a shot.
Really, to decide my courses for this and next semester, I just looked at courses i had an interest in during highschool, and hey if I like one of them enough, i'll make it my area of application. I'm still not sure though.
Don't even sweat it. First
Don't even sweat it. First semester second year = 4 CIS course. You won't have to worry about not having enough to do with computers ever again
